In 1954, the first apple trees were planted at the heart of the Loire Valley, nearby Angers.
In 1960, the first harvest was conducted and a fruit station / pack-house was inaugurated in Ecouflant (Maine-et-Loire). Already the pioneer spirit pushed us to innovate on a poorly developed French and European market at the time. At this very time, Pomanjou decided to introduce novelties to the market and imported in Europe for the first time new apple varieties : Granny Smith or Royal Gala.
1982 : The family-run operations gathered to form one larger company : the Coopérative des Arboriculteurs du Val de Loire (CAVL).
In 1986, the CAVL members (growers) invested to create a sales and promotion company to market their harvests. This is the birth of Pomanjou International.
Today, Pomanjou International sells around 50 000T of fresh produce tin France, Europe, and Overseas.
The main marketed apple varieties are: Royal Gala, Braeburn, Honeycrunch®, Granny-Smith, Golden Delicious, and the following pears : Conférence, William and Comice...
